Young Researchers Retreat in Münster

From May 26 to 28, 24 PhD students, 6 postdocs, 5 lecturers and 3 scientific Chairs/Organizers 😉 gathered in Münster for an inspiring Young Researchers Retreat. With no absences due to illness, the full group enjoyed a rich program of scientific exchange, hands-on activities, and social connection. A big thank you to Daniele Di Iorio and Katha Meyer zu Riemsloh for your support and warm welcome to Münster!

The retreat started on Monday with a Data Management course by Christian Müller, who emphasized the importance of metadata in organizing and structuring scientific results. His session highlighted how effective data practices can facilitate sharing within research communities and accelerate scientific progress. This was followed by project report sessions, where participants introduced themselves, presented their work and explored the diverse research being conducted across the priority program.

A highlight of the retreat was the team event “Impulse Reaction”, where participants split into four teams to design and build a collaborative chain reaction. Through creative thinking and teamwork, all four setups successfully triggered a final ‘firework’ 😉

Between sessions, attendees had the chance to connect informally enjoying time outdoors on the scenic property of ‘Haus Mariengrund’. A visit to the University of Münster and the Lab of Bodo Philipp offered an inside look at local research facilities, while a brief (and rainy) sightseeing walk provided a glimpse of the city’s historic castle.

The retreat concluded with a group dinner on Tuesday evening, followed by expert lectures on Wednesday morning by Aránzazu del Campo, Ulrike Nuber, Andrea Belluati, and Seraphine Wegner. After a shared lunch, the group began their journeys home.

Thanks so much again to all of you for your contributions – it was truly a pleasure to meet and connect in person ❣
